Five arrested for Joubertina bank heist

Port Elizabeth – Five people were arrested for robbing the Absa bank in Joubertina on Tuesday, Eastern Cape police said.

“It is suspected that a gang of more that 10 robbers was involved in this robbery, and police are still looking for at least another five suspects,” said Brigadier Marinda Mills.

She said the gang fired shots at the police at a roadblock between Uniondale and George. The police retaliated, wounding one of the robbers. Five of them were arrested, and three stolen vehicles were recovered.

Mills said a bank teller was assaulted with a firearm during the robbery, but that the police did not find firearms or money on the men they arrested.
